Culture Show

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

AIT recently held the annual Culture Show. The Indonesian community held a play with a theme called ‘Jelangkung’. It’s a somewhat ghost story and traditional game. The main actors were Mandra (Anton), Timbul (Brian), Basuki (Hary), and Tessy (Windy). We have been practicing for several weeks, made movies, sound recording, video clip making, and even making a bomb…so awesome! The play went well in the show, the audience laughed..clapped…it was such a thrilling, yet, funny play..and some said that the children got scared and cried… :)

The most interesting scene (my favorite part) was when the ghost (Thiang) appeared just behind the smoke (the bomb)…sooo cool..!!! And my other favorite is when the ghost seemed to float on stage..wow!! We dressed the ghost just exactly like one…long black hair covering the face..white cloth…blurred face…long black nails…white pale hands…uuggh..seemed so real.. I wish I had the picture to show you guys.. Anyways, turns out that we only came in the 3rd place winner.. it’s okay…I guess (to my opinion) we lacked of traditional clothes… ;) I had a nice time watching the other countries’ performance…aaand..a great time in taking photos with my tele.. :D

O yeah, in the show, I get to play one of the children…with 2 pony tails…looking so innocent…hahahaha….

Workshop Field Trip

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Kingdom Okay, so lemme tell u bout my 4 days workshop trip to the northern part of Thailand, a city called Phitsanulok. I was sooo not anxious in taking this trip. It’s a long way there and I’ve been there before last January. This city, has nothing in it, well, except the Folklore museum is very nice. But the Wat Yai, the temple they are proud of, ….well, it’s nothing! It’s not well maintained, no beautiful landscape, unorganized layouts, not very clean either.. but the good thing is, the temple is a pro-poor tourism coz they enhance a market around the temple which accomodate a working place for the people from the floating houses in the Nan River. But they could’ve done better in maintaining the place though, really.

Anyways, my group which have the topic of tourism strategies, had to wander around the city and look at tourism objects. Thus, my group is called the tourists group, which set other groups in a blaze of envy..haha…coz their topic was soo boring, like waste water, or solid waste…and all they did was go to the municipality office and the dumping site…yucks..

And so, at night, my group went to the riverside night bazaar. We had dinner there and interviewed some tourists. Wow, dinner on the riverside is great. U can feel the wind breeze slightly on your face, hear some music and see nice street lightings.. it can be really romantic there.. and from thereafter, we walked around and see the night bazaar.

On the last day, my group (yup, just my group) went to a neighboring province, Sukothai and went to the Historical Park. Sooo…sooo…beautiful I’m telling you.. You can feel the ancient city alive in front of you… Those pillars, temples and huge huge budha statues, makes you feel like you’re in another world at a different place and a different time..in a kingdom at the ancient times…wow!! I cant stop myself from taking pictures..too bad we dont have much time, so we had to get back to Phitsanulok. sucks..!!

All in all, this trip was much better than the last one. the hotel was great (except for that disfunctioning shower in my bathroom), the buffet breakfast was very nice.. the transportation was convenient…and the important thing is, I went to Sukothai, and I am so thinking of going back there to see the whole Historical Park!! :D
